Welcome! I’m Steph, a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist in Mitchell, Ontario.
I received my Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Social Work from McMaster University, followed by my Master of Social Work at King’s University College at the University of Western Ontario.
My therapeutic approaches include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Polyvagal Theory, Mindfulness, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Emotion Focused Therapy. I focus on the mind-body connection and the various strengths of my clients. Because I use a variety of treatment approaches, I work with my clients to find the best fit. It’s important to me that you’re included in the process!
My goal is to support my clients in understanding their emotional experiences, and finding ways of engaging in life in a way that is both meaningful and fulfilling — despite the difficulties that life throws at us. Society often suggests that happiness is the goal, and any experience to the contrary means something is wrong with us. We find ways of fighting with our less pleasurable emotions, hiding from them, ignoring them, numbing them. Sometimes these strategies are a necessary way of getting us through highly stressful or traumatic events. They can work exceptionally well in the short-term, but long-term they can begin to hold us back. I’m here to support you in figuring out what’s next.
